Intern Spotlight: Jade Bahng

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Airbnb as a Influencer Marketing Intern?
Hi everyone! My name is Jade Bahng, and I’m a senior studying Communications & Data Analytics at USC! This past summer, I was an Influencer Marketing Intern on the Channel Communications team at Airbnb! My team was small but mighty—the first ever global influencer team at Airbnb—and I I got to work on building out our global strategies from a Gen-Z perspective, connecting insights across different niches, platforms, and trends.
I got to touch all points of the influencer campaigns—from developing creative concepts for our partnerships with Karol G, Sabrina Carpenter, Paris Fashion Week, etc., to executing them in partnership with our creator partners, then analyzing performance data to refine the next campaigns!

What is one risk you’re glad you took during this experience and why?
I was so excited to be part of the Influencer team, but definitely curious about other teams in the org (brand social, celebrity partnerships, executive social). I started off my internship by coffee chatting at least one person from each of the different teams I was curious about, and offered to help out with any projects.
In addition to my influencer Capstone project and day-to-day tasks with my direct manager, I also got to work on some cool projects with mentors on the social campaigns team and the brand marketing team. It was definitely a LOT of work, and I often felt like I was doing 2-3 internships at once, but I learned so much and met so many amazing people!
What did you struggle with most at the beginning, and how did that change over time?
Technically, the entire company of Airbnb is remote! although I was based in the SF HQ, my team was based all around the US. during the first couple of weeks, it was definitely difficult to feel adjusted to the team professionally and socially when we simply only met during our weekly team syncs. I got used to communicating mainly via Slack, and setting up weekly standing meetings for each person on my team so I could get comfortable/close with everyone.

Recent Industry News:

Warner Bros. Discovery reopens Paramount talks while moving ahead with Netflix deal
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is continuing plans to merge most of its entertainment assets with Netflix while briefly reopening negotiations with Paramount to consider a potentially higher takeover bid. Paramount previously offered about $30 per share and may raise it to around $31, prompting WBD to request a “best and final” proposal.
Netflix has allowed a 7-day window for these talks despite its signed merger agreement with WBD. Meanwhile, Netflix is strongly criticizing Paramount's financial stability and regulatory risks, while Paramount is pushing its hostile bid directly to shareholders. WBD’s board says its priority is maximizing shareholder value as the high-stakes media takeover battle unfolds. Read more HERE from CNN.
Polls show 59% of Americans oppose the US-Israel military strikes on Iran
Several recent polls show that most Americans oppose the US and Israeli military strikes on Iran. A CNN poll found about 60% disapprove, with similar results from Reuters/Ipsos and The Washington Post. Republicans were more supportive of the action, while Democrats were largely opposed. In the Reuters/Ipsos poll, 56% said President Trump is too willing to use military force. Public opinion may still be forming, however, as nearly one-third of Americans reported not paying close attention to the conflict. Read more HERE from NYT.
How do I find Ambassador Positions
I've been receiving this question a handful of times in-person and online via DMs. Because joining a campus ambassador program is a great way for you to additionally foster work experience even outside of a traditional internship.
I’ve done ambassadorships with companies like Intuit and currently Notion!
Here are 3 ways that I’d recommend finding these opportunities
Follow the company’s LinkedIn for the companies that you’re interested in potentially becoming an ambassador for, because the program is frequently launched on LinkedIn before any other platform!
Search for keywords like “ambassador” or “campus leader”
Wasserman is a way that I found my ambassadorship for Intuit, so you could also give it a look there as they also have partnerships with many other companies!
These opportunities are a great way for you to interact with your campus and gain more IRL communication/marketing skills. It also teaches you to build some sort of online presence on social media as well since I’ve personally created both video and written content for both of my positions!
I was also invited to the Mountain View Intuit HQ for the TurboTax student retreat, and it was a blast 🙂 Ambassadorships, fellowships, or (whatever name else there is) are ways for you to gain experience to talk about during interviews, network with professionals in the company, and engage in a team as you’re most likely going to have several students you work with on your campus for the company!
