Here are 10 lessons I learned from all my rounds of interviewing:

  1. Smiling is a great first impression

  2. Arriving to video interviews at least 5 minutes early

  3. Preparing for “Why X company” question is VERY important

  4. Weaving keywords of the job description into your interview responses

  5. Knowing what stories of your experiences to talk about for behavioral questions is key

Intern Spotlight: Joshua Schreiber

Can you give us a brief introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Coinbase as a HR technology intern?

Hi! I’m Joshua Schreiber, a senior at Miami University in Ohio majoring in Organizational Leadership and Entrepreneurship with minors in Human Capital Management and Finance.

My role as a HR Technology intern over the summer focused on HR Tech X AI, specifically with building AI tools to automate our outbound sourcing processes and vendor management. Coinbase invests heavily into cutting-edge sourcing and recruiting initiatives to drive talent density, and the ROI is evident with the people I collaborate with.

Some students know you as the first intern who went viral on LinkedIn for getting laid off from Tesla, what was your journey like for job recruitment in such a short time frame and what are your key takeaways that you would share for students going through internship recruitment?

After receiving the unfortunate call from Tesla, I held off on applying ANYWHERE for 2-3 days until I could create a game plan. With experience in university recruiting, iI knew that 3 weeks for an intern recruitment cycle was near-impossible for competitive roles.

Instead of frantically sending out applications, I crafted my LinkedIn post to drive impressions, engagement, and ultimately receive inbound DMs / offers. For everyone currently going through the recruitment process, I have 3 tips (coming from a founder of an early-career talent agency with 14,000+ students at 8+ schools!)

1. Focus on relationships, not referrals. It’s easy to separate genuine interest vs. those who just want a way in. Before applying, find employees that have something in common with you; it could be your university, club affiliation, or even hobbies!

2. Build your personal brand. You don’t have to be a “LinkedIn Influencer” to do this, but if you’re interested in SWE, post about it! Comment! Make your voice known in the space, the rest will fall into place.

3. Understand that your “dream internship” may be great, but it may not be great for YOU. We tend to put certain companies / positions on a pedestal, basing our value on landing an offer. Embrace redirection and it works out eventually, 100% of the time.

What is one advice you’d give to students who want to pursue an internship in HR?

HR is volatile, especially with our current job market. If you’re pursuing HR, chances are you already have great communication skills. Want to stand out? Learn about tech. You don’t need to study CS, but being able to combine logical skills with creative execution is something that very few students can do well.

Boeing’s Turnaround gets tougher after failed union vote

Boeing’s challenges deepened as union members rejected a contract offer, extending a costly strike at Washington state factories. The company, already grappling with safety issues and executive changes, faces financial losses of $1 billion per month due to the strike.

The rejection stems from long-standing employee grievances, particularly the loss of traditional pension plans. While the company offered wage increases and bonuses, it refused to restore pensions, fueling frustration. Boeing’s new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, aims to resolve the strike and reset relations, but deep trust issues and financial struggles make a turnaround difficult. Read more HERE from CNN.

Meta Launches Instant A.I. Video Generator with Sound Integration

Alcon Entertainment, the producer of “Blade Runner 2049,” is suing Elon Musk for copyright infringement, accusing him of using imagery from the film without permission to promote Tesla’s “robotaxi.”

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, claims Alcon denied Musk’s request to use images from the movie for an October event, yet Tesla used AI-generated visuals resembling “Blade Runner 2049” scenes, including a Ryan Gosling look-alike. Alcon calls this a “malicious” attempt to exploit the film’s brand to boost Tesla’s appeal. Read more HERE from the New York Times.

Resource of the Day: Simplify

Get personalized job recommendations, craft tailored resumes, autofill, and track your job applications with Simplify.

While there are multiple functions to Simplify like bookmarking jobs to track your job search, using AI to tailor your resume for job descriptions, and getting jobs matched to your personal profile, I mainly use it autofill repetitive job application questions.

If I had to fill out each section manually by copy pasting my resume over into the Workday application for each internship, I think I’d give up by my 50th internship application.

But with Simplify’s copilot extension, I was able to speed through multiple internship applications because it autofilled my job applications with my resume job descriptions, titles, and common questions about your candidacy (visa, disability, veteran status).
