Bonus tip when applying to these roles:

Before submitting your application, review the job description and mirror key phrases—especially those related to required skills, tools, or responsibilities—throughout your resume. Many companies use ATS scanners that filter out resumes missing relevant keywords. Subtle tweaks like adding a specific keyword or CS language can boost your chances of passing the first digital screening to have your resume reviewed by the recruiter.

Intern Spotlight: Michelle Feng

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Capital One as a product design intern?

Heyy I’m Michelle, and I interned at Capital One this past summer in DC! As a Product Design Intern, I worked on the Secured Card Team designing the funding experience for customers. I was grateful to be able to experience the entire design process from users' research and testing to midfis and highfis in Figma. I also really enjoyed leading feedback sessions with stakeholders and learning from my managers!

How do you usually start your design process when given a new problem? What’s been your biggest challenge in communicating design decisions to non-design stakeholder or those that you worked with during your internship?

There is always a huge misconception that design is purely aesthetic, but that is not true. A big part of product design is research, systems, and being empathetic towards our users — understanding my users was how I got started. The biggest challenge was aligning with stakeholders throughout the design process. A lot of the times, I backed my design decisions with research, articles, and user testings to gain alignment and get things moving.

What’s the most valuable skill you’ve used or learned in your role? And how do you suggest students to go about learning that skill?

The most valuable skill I used/learned being able to contribute as a design stakeholder. This means being able to convey design decisions with relevant research, advocate for our users, and suggest next steps for the rest of the team. This takes practice through working on various products, but something that helped me was practice presenting by myself in the mirror before presenting to stakeholders. Hope this helps!

The company’s rapid rise—adding $1 trillion in just four months—as made essential to President Trump's trade negotiations across Asia and China, where Nvidia's chip sales were previously restricted.
