Intern Spotlight: Sneha Kale

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at HP as a software product management intern now incoming Data Product Manager?
Hi, I'm Sneha! I just graduated from UC Davis in Computer Science with a minor in technology management. I grew up in India and moved to the U.S. for college, so I've had the chance to bring a mix of both experiences into my work. Last summer, I interned with HP on the Print Software and Platform Solutions team as a product management intern, and I'm really excited to be going back full-time in the same role.

What’s something you wish you had at the start of your internship, how has this experience influenced what you want to do after graduation with HP?
When I started my internship at Comma, I thought of PM as a very streamlined role focused on a single customer facing product. What I quickly learned is that it's incredibly diverse, and platform product management, which was my focus, meant treating internal teams and stakeholders as my customers.
I got to collaborate with cloud architects, FinTech specialists, and many cross-functional groups, which broadened my view of P&M beyond just engineering, design, and marketing. This experience and exposure solidified my interest in Platform PM and made me excited to continue building my career at HP!
What is one advice you’d give to students who want to pursue product management?
Honestly, the best way to learn a product is by actually doing it, not just reading about it. Get involved in clubs or side projects where you can build something real with other people. Even just picking a product you love and doing it in your own case study can help you build your product sense. And so much of PM is about working across teams, so learning how to collaborate is just as important as the product itself.

Trump’s $100k H-1B fee risks hurting small employers while missing real fixes
The Trump administration's overhaul of the H-1B visa program adds a $100,000 fee for new applications and weighs the lottery toward higher-paid jobs, but experts say these measures miss the program's core problems. Demand for skilled visas has long exceeded supply, leading outsourcing firms to dominate the lottery with low-wage applications, while startups, universities, and research institutions struggle.
The new policies risk shutting out smaller employers while leaving loopholes for big outsourcing companies and multinationals. Critics argue the reforms don't address wage suppression or the need for systemic fixes like a points-based system, wage floors, or expanded green cards. Read more HERE from NYT.
California passes landmark AI safety law, challenging big tech
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act, one of the nation's strongest AI safety laws. The measure requires large AI companies to disclose safety protocols, report risks, and protect whistleblowers, while creating a state consortium to guide ethical AI development.
Supporters say the law balances innovation and safety, though major tech firms argue state-by-state rules create burdens and prefer federal regulation. The law marks California's latest move to lead on tech oversight. Read more HERE from NYT.
