Intern Spotlight: Hanan Denboba

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Google as an APMM intern for Youtube Gaming?

Hello! I’m Hanan Denboba, a first-generation college student studying business administration with a concentration in marketing at Oglethorpe University. I’m a soon-to-be graduate (Dec. ‘24!) and an incoming Associate Product Marketing Manager (APMM) at Google. This summer, I completed the APMM internship on the Youtube Gaming team!

Can you describe a typical day at your internship? What were your primary responsibilities for your role at Youtube gaming?

Each day was different during my internship, but some commonalities were coffee chats and professional development sessions/activities. This summer, I had the opportunity to do marketing research, strategy, and event marketing, so of course, I had some heads-down working time every day. APMM work also involves a lot of cross-functional work as well, so participating in meetings was also a big part of the job.

What is one advice you’d give to students who want to pursue marketing in big tech?

The best advice I can give anyone looking to get into this role or big tech is to be personable! People, especially marketers, want to work with people who bring good vibes to their team and project. A smile and a welcoming attitude will go a long way when networking, interviewing, or working with others!

This follows a judgment deeming Google’s search dominance illegal. Additional proposed remedies include prohibiting exclusive search engine agreements and mandating data sharing with competitors, aiming to dismantle Google’s market control in the tech industry. Read more HERE from the NYT.
