Intern Spotlight: Kevin Huang

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Chegg as a UX Content Design Intern?
Hi everyone! My name is Kevin Huang, and I’m a senior studying Media and Mass & Public Relations and Strategic Communications at Purdue University. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to work for Chegg as an UX Content Design Intern.
During my time there, I was able to create new chat AI responses following Chegg’s tone and brand guidelines, study and build a new large-language model (LLM) prompt rubric and pitch a Blue Sky Thinking presentation to all of Chegg.

With a Communications Media major and roles in many extracurricular clubs on campus, what are some skill sets that have helped you in your journey to land a role at Chegg?
I currently serve as the VP of Purdue’s PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America), VP of Administration of Purdue Mortar Board – Barbara Cook Chapter (national senior honor society with pillars in scholarship, leadership and service), President of Operations of Boiler Communication (a student-run PR agency) and the Chair of Marketing of PASE (Purdue Alumni Student Experience).
Throughout my leadership journey across various student organizations, I was constantly learning and diving into difficult, different situations such as planning professional events from start to finish, creating websites from scratch, knowing how to strategically tell stories through acting, videography and photography and more.
I’d say there’s no such thing as having the perfect skill set for a specific role and position; you’re applying to the role because you BELIEVE you can make a difference or are willing to take a chance at something different. At the end of the day, you’re a person trying to impress others, but there’s no better way than just being yourself!
What is one advice you’d give to students who want to pursue a UX Content design internship OR students with a Communications major?
As someone interested in entertainment and media PR, I took the leap in applying for a something different and away from my interests: an UX Content Design internship. I never did think I would be the “perfect” person for the position, but regardless, I put as much effort and time as I could into my applications and interview.
To my surprise, I got it! As a result, a piece of advice I’d give to students in Communication is don’t be afraid or hesitant to apply for something different. You just need one “yes” in an ocean of “no’s.” Moreover, be confident in yourselves and in your applications because people can see confidence and humility in interviews.
