Intern Spotlight: Cassandra Rosales

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your internship at PayPal as an internal communication intern?

Hello! My name is Cassandra Rosales and I am an undergraduate student studying Sociology with a focus on Organization studies at UC Davis. During my internship at Paypal as an internal communications intern, I spent time meeting with a variety of different teams to update and organize their specific SharePoint slides. This included updating weekly newsletters onto the site, organizing data, creating events, and preparing information based on what I gathered from these SharePoint sites.

What is an instance where you faced an unexpected problem? What did you do?

During my internship at PayPal, there were times when I faced issues with the SharePoint site due to the way it was formatted. I did spend some time alone googling what could be the problem, which did help a bit but not enough to solve the root of what was wrong on the site. Instead of sitting with the problem, I reached out to my supervisor for help. From this experience, I learned that if I ever had a question, no matter how big or how small, I should just ask it because it could save me a lot of time and energy that did not need to be wasted.

What is one advice you’d give to students who struggle to know what to develop outside of the classroom?

A piece of advice that I would offer students who struggle to know what to develop outside of the classroom is to work on your presentation skills. In high school, students are really only taught presentation 101, but teachers aren’t really harsh or critical of your skills. It is important to develop these skills because they will be required by future jobs or internships.

Cracks Emerge in Microsoft and OpenAI’s Once Strong Partnership

Tensions have risen between Microsoft and OpenAI, straining their once-strong partnership. OpenAI, facing mounting financial and computing power demands, sought renegotiations, eventually securing a $10 billion deal with Oracle.

Microsoft hedged its bets by hiring staff from an OpenAI competitor. As OpenAI expanded, it closed a $6.6 billion funding round. Disagreements, financial pressures, and competition highlight the challenges of the partnership’s future trajectory. Read more HERE from the New York Times.
