Saudi Arabia invests $3 Billion in xAI ahead of SpaceX merger
Saudi Arabia’s state-backed AI firm, Humain, invested 3 billion in Elon Musk’s xAI shortly before xAI merged with SpaceX, creating a company valued at over $1 trillion. The investment makes Humain a significant minority shareholder, with its stake converted into SpaceX shares. the timing could yield major gains if Musk proceeds with a planned IPO later this year.
The deal deepens Saudi Arabia's ties to a major U.S. government contractor, as SpaceX plays a key role in national security and satellite systems. the move reflects Saudi Arabia's broader push to diversify its economy and become a global AI and technology powerhouse. Read more HERE from NYT.
Amazon’s Ring ends Flock Safety partnership after privacy backlash
Amazon-owned Ring has canceled its planned partnership with license plate reader company Flock Safety following weeks of privacy backlash. The integration would have allowed Phlox's technology to connect with Ring's Community Requests feature, enabling law enforcement to request user footage.
Concerns intensified after a Super Bowl ad and online claims about potential ICE access, which both companies denied. Ring said the cancellation was a mutual decision and confirmed no user data was shared, emphasizing that federal agencies cannot access footage through its platform. Read more HERE from CNN.
Handshake - Is it worth using??
How do you find your internships??
is a question I receive often whenever I talk about recruitment and my own internships that I’ve done. I’ve always said I’ve either applied via LinkedIn or I’m subscribed to companies’ individual career page where they notify me when their roles come out.
However, I’ve been asked about Handshake so many times.
Should you use it? What kind of roles are on there? Is it worth your time?
Here’s what you should know:
Handshake is good for on-campus jobs and internships/jobs local to your area from smaller companies or nonprofit organizations
The UX is similar to LinkedIn, but if you want more internships in industries like tech, creative, engineering, - you are better off outside of Handshake
Handshake is constantly shared as a resource by counselors, but unless you’re specifically searching for on-campus jobs, I would recommend using your efforts elsewhere and not on Handshake.
