Analytics internship roles with F500, Mid Sized Companies, etc

Bonus tip when applying to these roles:

You’ll never know if something isn’t meant for you until you give it a try.

The earlier you give your interests a try, the faster you’ll be able to niche down what you see yourself pursuing in the long run.

If you have a limited amount of time right now (3rd/4th year) before graduation, here’s what I’d do:

► Try 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗯𝘀 with projects to see where your skills best fit on the team
► 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘂𝗻𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 with nonprofit organizations to see what you LIKE doing and what you DON’t like doing (I don’t usually recommend unpaid internships, but it’s a lower stakes role for you to see what you want to do without overly stressful responsibilities)
► 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 to see how they figured out their career path
► 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 and the roles within it. Write them down and see which one sticks out to you
► 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, because what you see yourself gearing to is usually a pretty clear sign of what you want to do in your future (or at least be of relation to)

Intern Spotlight: Lisa Lin

Can you give us an introduction of yourself and a look into your role at Apple as a Software Engineer intern?

Hi my name is Lisa and I’m currently a junior at Harvard studying CS and art with a concurrent masters in CS as well. At Apple I worked in the organization for Services with like messages, notes app, or the weather app. I was in the cloud infrastructure team where I worked on kubernetes.

What was the most challenging aspect of your internship and how did you overcome it?

Since my previous internship experiences were mostly with startups on a much faster-paced basis with less structure, working with a bigger company did give me a new outlook on a different kind of infrastructure like an actual development cycle and code maintenance - especially when it comes to testing.

Because Harvard has mostly theoretical courses, I would say learning all of the different processes at Apple and adjusting to it was simultaneously the most challenging and most rewarding aspect. By having experience in both a smaller and larger company, I was able to learn how to ask the right questions, know what kind of department I would like working in, understand how to test or whiteboard the code, and realize what kind of environment that I personally enjoy working in.

What is one advice you’d give to students who want to pursue software engineering?

Know that a lot of things are luck based and don’t be bogged down by rejections. Even after online assessments, most of the time it’a a luck and numbers game for how many applications you sent out and waiting it out.

Each interview is a way for you to practice presenting yourself and learning how to best talk about your experiences, even if you don’t end up with an offer, it’s still a valuable experience for your own growth. Everything gets better with practice and know that you’re not going to be amazing in your first interview so don’t be too harsh on yourself.

Tesla profits plunge 71% as Elon Musk scales back Washington presence amid backlash

Tesla’s quarterly profits fell 71%, prompting Elon Musk to announce he’ll reduce his time in Washington, where he serves as a Trump administration adviser. The drop comes amid declining sales, increased competition from Chinese automakers, and consumer backlash over Musk’s political ties.

Despite Tesla’s status as the most valuable carmaker, its shares have halved since December. The Cybertruck is underperforming, and investors are pressuring Musk to refocus on Tesla as it faces production issues and uncertain market conditions. Read more HERE from the New York Times.
