Hello everyone! Arlina here and I wanted to reintroduce myself and CareerNow to all the old and new members in this community. I started CareerNow in August after getting laid off from my role at Tesla as an intern for summer 2024.

I created a spreadsheet on early career programs, because I saw that there was a need for students like me for these resources on programs that no one ever knows about until they hear others talking about them.

I wanted to share my knowledge and research I made to help my own early career journey with students like you, because I know that not every student has the time for research due to responsibilities: family, academic, work, and more.

I’m working on making more resources for students like you: cold DM templates, early career programs, early career tools, and more to come. I also handpick job opportunities from LinkedIn according to the topic of each newsletter issues.

The European Union’s highest court ruled against Apple and Google in two significant legal cases, marking a victory in the EU’s effort to regulate the tech industry. In the Apple case, the court upheld a 2016 order for Ireland to collect €13 billion ($14.4 billion) in unpaid taxes, ruling that Apple made illegal tax deals with Ireland. Apple argued the decision imposed a double tax on income already taxed in the U.S. The ruling is a key moment in the EU's longstanding attempts to curb the influence of major tech companies.

In 2012, Amazon acquired Kiva Systems, revolutionizing warehouse automation. Last week, Amazon announced a deal with Covariant, a startup focused on AI-powered robots to handle a wider range of physical tasks.

Covariant struggled to commercialize its technology due to high costs and competition, but Amazon’s licensing of Covariant’s models and data could drive another significant transformation in ecommerce automation. Covariant’s founders and key researchers will join Amazon, marking a trend of Big Tech acquiring AI talent without full acquisitions. Lillian Chiu is a YouTuber working as a business analyst at Spotify in New York. She posts bi-weekly Youtube videos on her day in a life working as a business analyst and her journey to landing the job.

More specifically she shares her “[early career] stories in tech, navigating through life in my 20s, and building my home away from home.”

I personally found her videos of day in a life, work vlogs, and traveling videos really enjoyable and knowledgable at the same time. The videos give any student a good idea of what a general day in a life of a business analyst (or employee in general) at a big company could look like.
